Cleaning and Maintenance

Why are my cast iron handles developing rust?

Our cast iron handles are left uncoated to retain their natural appearance. Like all uncoated cast iron, they can develop light surface rust if exposed to moisture or humidity. This is completely normal and is not a defect.

To remove any rust, gently rub the affected area with a nylon abrasive pad or ultra-fine wire wool and a little white vinegar. Dry the handle thoroughly, then wipe it with a very light coating of vegetable oil using a clean cloth. Repeating this occasionally will protect the cast iron and prevent rust from returning.

Olive oil or ordinary corn oil are both suitable for this purpose.
